Remote microgrid dispatch and optimization

Full-year simulations of remote community microgrids that combine renewable generation, batteries and long-duration storage, diesel backup, forecasts and equipment constraints.

  • Compares forecast-informed, mixed-integer model predictive control with load-following dispatch on reliability, cost, emissions and fuel use.
  • Automated scenario, lifecycle-cost, sensitivity and verification workflows.
  • Builds on PGMcpp, the PRIMED Grid Modelling code from the University of Victoria.
  • Two manuscripts in preparation and revision.

Offshore hydrogen operability thresholds

An hourly production, storage and vessel model with tri-objective optimization, applied to 11 years of ERA5 data at a North Atlantic and a North Sea site. It identifies where wind–wave transfer limits change delivered cost, production and reliability non-linearly.

  • NSGA-II and NSGA-III, each with seven independent seeds; TOPSIS for compromise designs.
  • Partial-transfer operation, threshold definitions, electrolyzer alternatives and interannual variability.
